At Westlake Family Dental Care, we employ some of the latest technology to provide you even better dental care.
Every x-ray taken is digital and emits a much lower dose of radiation to the patient than conventional film x-rays. New in 2016, the Sirona Orthophos XG5 allows us to take a digital image of the entire jaw as well as digital cephalometric x-rays to evaluate jaw growth in adolescents. Perhaps best of all, the Sirona Orthophos XG5 allows us take check-up bitewing x-rays without placing a sensor in the mouth, which is a huge benefit to patients with a strong gag reflex.
The newest addition to the office is the Cerec Omnicam. This machine allows us to make a crown from start to finish in the SAME DAY! That means no wearing a temporary crown for weeks and no second appointment for cementing the final crown. The Omnicam takes a digital impression of the prepared tooth so there is no “gooky” impression. The crown is then designed chairside and milled in-office, a process that most patients love to watch! As soon as your crown is finished, it is cemented in and you will go home as good as new.The Cerec Omnicam also allows us to take digital scans to submit to Invisalign®, also bypassing the “gooky” impression step.
The CariVu is a radiation-free light that assists the doctors in diagnosing cavities early, so we can restore the tooth with the smallest filling possible.
At every exam, our doctors do a visual examination to check for any signs of oral cancer or other oral lesions. As an adjunct, our patients can also elect to have a secreening with the Velscope oral cancer detector. Velscope is capable of detecting pre-cancerous areas before it is visible to the naked eye.
The NV diode laser is a soft-tissue laser that can be used to remove excess gum tissue and to help heal cold sores and canker sores faster.
